Xbox 是出名的赔本赚吆喝，随后微软又推出了 Xbox 360，虽然比其他新一代游戏主机早推出一年左右，可是盈利情况仍不容乐观，微软也没有给出确定的情况。
不过不久前微软副总裁兼娱乐与设备事业部负责人 Robbie Bach 在接受采访的时候却透露 Xbox 360 业务从明年开始将“有利可图”，“我们明年就要开始赚钱了——这是第一次，相当令人兴奋。”
而对于利润的来源，Bach表示有三个方面：
- 软件：自主开发和第三方产品的版税许可费之类
- Xbox Live：微软在网络方面花了很大功夫，毫无疑问这是一条可靠的淘金途径，会员费，广告费和收费下载模式都能带来不错的利润
- 周边产品：例如照相机和控制器等
